The work of the Cascade Rail Foundation is featured in two new short videos released by Model Railroader Video Plus (MRVP), Kalmbach Publishing Company’s subscription video website. MRVP Contributing Editor, Charlie Conway, joined Cascade Rail Foundation Board member Karl Hufnagel and his son Nicholas for a two-day road trip along the Milwaukee Road right-of-way that took them from Seattle all the way to the Idaho border.
In the first video, ‘Along the Old Milwaukee Road’, Charlie, Karl and Nicholas visit locations along the old Milwaukee mainline, including the tunnel at Snoqualmie Pass, the Columbia River Bridge at Beverly and the historic district at Cle Elum where Board member Mary Pittis and her husband Doug provide a tour of the restored Milwaukee depot and the adjacent brick substation.
‘Milwaukee Road 5057’ focuses on the Foundation’s efforts to restore Milwaukee Road 5057, our GE U25B road locomotive, and bring it home to the South Cle Elum Rail Yard. Brad Byrd, Chief Mechanical Officer of the Pend Oreille Valley Railroad, describes the repair work that has already been done, and the preparations that remain, for repainting the locomotive this spring in the railroad’s Usk, Washington shops.
The videos are part of the ‘Charlie’s Trackside Postcard’ series, one of three shows on MRVP about contemporary railroads and rail-served industries. While these shows are normally accessible exclusively to MRVP subscribers, Kalmbach has generously agreed to make these episodes available to the public free-of- charge to support the 5057 repainting drive and the work of the Cascade Rail Foundation. Thank you, MR Video Plus!
