2018 Rail Yard Improvement Plans

We have several irons in the fire to improve the South Cle Elum Rail Yard in 2018. In addition to continuing our work to beat back the trees and sagebrush, we plan to build some track, improve the signage along the street, refurbish the exterior of our caboose, and construct a much needed dumpster enclosure for the depot parking lot.

The more volunteers we get, the more we can accomplish this year. We could especially use your assistance if you have experience with track work or have carpentry skills! Let us know if you’d like to help.

We have tentatively scheduled work parties for Saturday, March 31 and the weekend of April 21-22, with more planned later in the year.

And if your pen is mightier than your saw, consider making a donation to offset the cost of these projects.

Important Information for Volunteers

Washington State Parks has a new requirement that all volunteers using power equipment in the Rail Yard (chain saws, tractors, lawn mowers, etc.) need to receive training from State Parks staff. We will be working with State Parks to schedule a training session on a Saturday morning in the spring. Currently we are targeting the end of March. We will update this page when we have more information.
