5057 work restarts!

Work on the cosmetic restoration of the 5057 is resuming now that we have finalized a contract with Columbia Rail.

The cosmetic restoration work will include:

  • Removing fluids (oil, fuel) from the locomotive and cleaning the fuel tank
  • Fixing the doors
  • Repairing rust damage
  • Straightening bent handrails
  • Replacing the cab floor
  • Reassembling the control stand
  • Replacing windows

We are about $30,000 short of the amount needed to complete all of the work. You can donate here to help close the gap.

As the cosmetic restoration proceeds, we are finding a place to display the locomotive while we work on the next phases of the project. Our goal is to have the 5057 in a safe, temporary location where the public can have access to it. Stay tuned!
